
Why get a custom-made garment?
I am a size 10 in most retail stores. Well, sometimes. In dresses, it’s more like an 8. Pants can be a 12, to fit over my thighs. But then they usually need hemming. Jackets, I’m a 10 across the shoulders and an 8 around the waist. And forget sheath dresses altogether. They’re always too loose around the middle and too tight around the hips. Come to think of it, I can’t really find anything ready-made that fits me, unless it’s adjustable or stretchy. I mean, I could purchase a garment and alter it to fit, if the seams are accessible, but for the time and money, I could have just made it myself.

I’m not saying that you should walk around day and night in custom-made jeans and tee-shirts, but there are occasions when a garment just needs to fit.
Maybe you have a dress in mind, a design you thought of yourself, but don’t know how to make it. Costume parties, weddings, proms, renaissance fairs—it’s nice to have something that doesn’t look like everyone else’s outfit.
